麦克·莫波格,生于1943年,在伦敦大学学习英文与法文后,便开始小学的教职生涯,在每天跟孩子说故事的例行活动中,他发掘了自己的另一项才艺--说故事。30岁时出版第一本书。1976的他和妻子克莱儿一起成立慈善事业“城市儿童农场”,目前在英国有三处这样的地方,它们让城市的孩子有机会和动植物一起生活,以启发孩子们对大自然的喜爱,并从中学得如何与自然共处。
他所写的小说得奖无数,曾经翻拍成电影、电视剧、舞台剧,甚至歌剧,二○○三年更获得两年一度的英国“童书桂冠作家”荣誉。
由于他深知历史传承的可贵,因此常将现代的元素融入故事情节中,“用一个‘现在’来牵稳读者的手,带领他们走入过去。”
然而,莫波格除了在他最喜爱的历史间穿梭,他还是一位“入世的说书人”,他和妻子克莱儿从一九七六年开始,即着手为都市孩子设立慈善农场(Farms for City Children),他们现在已有三座农场,每年陪伴超过两百位孩子,在这里一同体验农场生活,并从动物和大自然中学习包容和宽恕。
